Birding Up Close and Personal November 29 2015

John and Scrub-jay

Visiting the Florida Scrub-jays is always a special treat. Shirley and I stopped by the Helen and Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary in Rockledge, FL last April. This little fella followed us for a 1/4 mile around the trail. Scrub-jays are intensely curious. New etching to follow this month.

Starting 2015 February 17 2015

The year started kind of slow for us. We finally had great weather and a good show in Sanibel this past weekend. Actually won an award to top it off. Next weekend we will be in Key West. We're doing some birding in between. Hit our favorite places in south Florida-Corkscrew swamp,Everglades, Green Cay Wetlands, Wakodahatchee Wetlands today. Tomorrow we head to Viera Wetlands near Melbourne. All the pictures I take will eventually end up in my etchings. So for me ,I guess it's like Research & Development ! I'm already working on several new pieces for this year.

Orange Beach Show March 16 2014

we headed to the deep south to Alabama for a couple of shows , First to Orange Beach where I got lucky again and won Best of 2-D award! 2 good days then on to Fairhope Alabama. This is usually always a good show for us. Weather turned bad so we lost Sunday. they closed the show a day early because of Tornado warnings!!!!!! oh well on to Naples next week after a few days of birding in Florida , heading to the Gatorland Rookery to see what is nesting now!

Sanibel Weekend February 18 2014

I love doing the Sanibel show! This year was a little different from the start. With a huge snow storm forecast , we decided to leave early. Sooooo... we left Wed. morning. by the time we got to Charlotte it was Snowing! OK no problem. If we can just get to Columbia we will make it. Man, we BARELY made it to Columbia. Looked better when we got to 95, then the freezing rain started accumulating on the trees. They then proceeded to start falling across I-95. Made it to Savannah in 7 HOURS, white knuckle all the way. Finally hit Florida the next day! Sanibel was sunny and 75 degrees. Crowds were strong both days. The Judge gave me an Honorable Mention Award! This means I'm automatically in for next year. Next stop is the Old Island Days art festival in Key West. Well ,somebody has to go there so I volunteer! Till next time.......

First Show January 21 2014

First show of the year was Beaux Arts Festival at the University of Miami. Two beautiful days of 72 degree weather! The crowds both day were strong, but sales were better on Sunday. We sold a lot of the new pieces-all three Mermaids & the Swamp Gator-and several of the larger birds. Saturday I even ate my first Fried Gator! Yum! Every morning we were greeted with a tree full of Green Parrots and Parakeets. A little noisy but fun to watch. The Miami campus is beautiful, and one of my favorite features is the canal that runs in front of our booth. For two days I was able to photograph several Green Herons, Cormorants, Gallinules, and American Coots! Sunday I was fortunate to see a semi-rare Spotted Oriole,a beautiful bright orange bird. I saw 4 or 5 Hill Myna birds. This a Very high quality show that I felt very fortunate to be in . I saw many pieces I would like to own! Sunday morning I was surprised with 2nd place in the Graphics & Drawing category . What a great way to start off the new year . This weekend ( Jan 22-26) we will be at the Space Coast Birding Festival in Titusville. Come by if you get a chance.

First Post December 26 2013

This is my first post on my new website. I love this time of the year, the  end of one season, and the anticipation of the next. Usually our last show is in early December and our next show in late January.  We take those 6 weeks to look back over last year and start planning for next. Being on the road 40 weekends a year doesn't leave much studio time. More time in the studio would be my New Years wish!  Soooo..... Now I'm trying figure out what I will be drawing on for the next 4 months.

This year has been a little different for us. This year Santa brought me a new right hip! I'm looking forward to a new year without pain. Doing great and getting a lot of good planning done! My work comes from my experiences in life and fortunately last year was a great year for our "research and development" excursions. After going through thousands of photos taken last year, I think I have lined up several exciting pieces for next year. the next several weeks I will be dividing my time between physical therapy and working on new drawings. In my spare time I'll be printing.

We still have a lot of new pieces to add to the website, so over the next few weeks be looking for a lot of new posts. This is probably enough for now! I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!
